What is National Forest Program?

According to the MCPFE definition in the H1 resolution National Forest Programe constitutes a participatory, holistic, inter-sectoral and iterative process of policy planning, implementation, monitoring and evaluation at the national and/or sub-national level in order to proceed towards the further improvement of sustainable forest management as defined in Helsinki Resolution H1, and to contribute to sustainable development.
 
This process in Serbia practically has already started in 2003 with previous TCP FAO Project “Institutional development and capacity building for National Forest Program in Serbia”.

NFP in the context of Serbia, according the objectives of GCP Project “Forest sector development in Serbia” contain forest policy development that has already adopted as Forest Development Strategy, forest and hunting legislation development, development of National Forest Program / Plan, mechanisms for its monitoring and reform of public forestry institutions and forestry service. Its principle is also human capacity building through all levels. In wider context it contains private forest sector reform with adequate professional and financial support from the government.
